Opening Files in Adobe Acrobat Reader |
| Many people are now
creating their webspages as PDF files. So, what is a PDF
file and how do you open it? |
| |
A
PDF is a standard document exchange file that can be shared,
viewed, and printed by anyone, on any system, using free Adobe
Acrobat Reader® software regardless of the operating system,
original application, or fonts. |
| |
Many people - organizations, companies, etc - are
using PDF as a fast way of adding data to the internet. They
just take the files and create a PDF and upload it to the
internet. No html coding (like this page), creating links or
formatting. |
| |
PDF is an excellent way of sharing books and
multi-page books. One the PDF document opens, you can save
the material to your computer for later viewing (be sure to
observer copyright restrictions on the material) - and add your
own bookmarks and notes as you view the document (or book). |
|
So, how do I view a PDF file? |
| |
First you need to download a free program from
Adobe
called Adobe Acrobat Reader®.
Adobe. At their site, you can read more about PDF files,
look for the links at the left side of the page - and download
Adobe Acrobat Reader® shown here. Or click on the
image here and go directly to the download page. Just
download the file, install it & you're set! |
|
Then what? |
| |
When you click on a link that is a PDF file, it
will open. We've identified the PDF files on this site and
the one's we've linked to with this symbol:

| |
Just click on the book title and the PDF file will
begin to open. The PDF file might take
a little while to open, depending on your internet connection.
Imagine opening 50 pages or 100 pages at one time! That's
what the PDF is doing and why it might take a little while. |
|
It's That Easy! |
| |
So, that's it. Enjoy your new technology.
Who knows maybe you'll start creating PDF files of your family
history, too! |
