WILLIAM M. WOODRUFF, insurance agent,
Meadville, was born May 30, 1843, in Portage County, Ohio, and is a son of
Chauncey and Paulina (Bray) Woodruff, natives of Connecticut, and of
English and Scotch descent. His father died in 1851, and his mother lived
to be eighty-six years of age. Our subject is the youngest of a family of
eleven children, and at the age of eighteen he learned telegraphy, which
he followed until 1872. Since then he has been in the employment of the
Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, and is now district agent. He
was married December 25, 1866, to Jessie Wood, and they have three
children: William B., Frank M. and Harry P. Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff are
members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which for several years he
has been Steward and Trustee, and f or seven years Treasurer.
