THOMAS B. McFADDEN, alderman of the Sixth Ward, Allentown, is
the son of Thomas and Mary (Green) McFadden, and was born at Fullerton,
Pa., June 29, 1876. In his early youth he removed with his parents to
Allentown, where he was educated in the public schools and in the American
Business College, taking a course in bookkeeping. He then entered the
employ of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, continuing with that
concern for a period of seven years, after which he worked four years for
Sweeney & Co., at Philadelphia. Returning to Allentown, he was engaged in
the grocery business on his own account for two years, but later, from
1904 to 1912, worked as a grocery clerk in the store of Joseph Schwentzer.
Mr. McFadden nerved two terms (1906-07 and 1910-11) in the lower branch of
city councils, and was responsible for some important legislation,
including the first ordinance providing for the inspection of meat markets
and slaughter houses. In the fall of 1911 he was elected alderman of the
Sixth Ward and took office, December 4th of that year, to fill the
unexpired term of Patrick McCloskey, deceased. Mr. McFadden is a Democrat
in politics and an enterprising citizen, as well as an intelligent and
broadminded justice of the peace. He is the sincere and ardent friend of
time poor and needy, and virtually has charge of the work of the
charitable organizations in his section of the community. In 1896 he
married Catherine Gillespie, of Allentown.
