NORTON L. GLEASON, attorney at law, Meadville,
was born in South Shenango Township, Crawford Co., Penn., April 11, 1852,
and is a son of Norton D. and Sarah E. (Hart) Gleason, both of English
descent. His parents were natives of Trumbull County, Ohio, and came to
Crawford County, Penn., to farm in 1833, settling in South Shenango
Township, raising a family of six children, of whom our subject is fourth.
He was reared on the farm and received an excellent education, finishing
in the following schools, viz.: Edinboro State Normal, Farmington Seminary
and Allegheny College. After this he entered the law office of Compton &
McKay, of Meadville, in 1874, and was admitted to practice April 6, 1876;
commenced practice in Meadville the same year, but in 1877 he went to
Cochranton, Penn., where he remained in the practice until 1883, when he
returned to Meadville. In our subjects educational career he taught in
all ten terms, and supported himself at college by teaching. His mother
died August 9, 1870, his father May 28, 1880. He is an active member of
the I. 0. 0. F., having filled all the chairs. Politically he is a
Republican.
