|
M. S. COOPER, farmer, Meadville, was born in
this county August 17, 1830, and is a son of Lewis and Fidelia (Smith)
Cooper, natives of Massachusetts and Connecticut respectively, and of
English origin. His parents were early settlers of Vernon Township, this
county. The father, who was a prominent farmer, had a family of six
children, all of whom except our subject were the children of his second
wife, our subjects mother dying when he was young. The father died in
1856. He had held most of the township offices. Our subject received his
education in Kingsville College, Ohio, and farmed until he was
thirty-eight years of age, when he came to Meadville. He served as Chief
of Police in Meadville, but his life work has been that of an
agriculturist. He was married in 1856 to Rachel, daughter of Robert
Harper, who is a sister of Hon. W. S. Harper, of Meadville; they have one
child Rebecca. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper are members of the First Presbyterian
Church of Meadville. In politics he is a Republican.
