Lawrence Rupp    

LAWRENCE H. RUPP, one of the leading members of the Lehigh County Bar Association and former district attorney, is a son of County Superintendent of Schools Alvin H. Rupp and wife, Ellen (Miller). He was born in New Tripoli, Pa., September 26, 1881. As a youth he attended the public schools of Coopersburg, Pa., later removing with his parents to Allentown and graduating from the Allentown High School. He pursued his studies at Muhlenberg College, whence he was graduated with the class of 1902, Mr. Rupp began the study of law with his uncle, John Rupp, and was admitted to the bar, September 4, 1905. In 1911 he was elected district attorney of Lehigh County on the Democratic ticket, with the largest majority ever received by a candidate for that office. He assumed the duties of his office on January 1, 1912, and proved himself to be a painstaking and efficient prosecuting attorney. During his administration there was a marked decrease of crime in Lehigh County. He was president of the Penn Counties Trust Company from October 13, 1912, to May 6, 1913, when he resigned and was elected trust officer of the Lehigh Valley Trust Company, of which he is also a director. With Reuben J. Butz, he is a member of the law firm of Butz & Rupp. Mr. Rupp is a member of the Livingston Club; Masonic and Odd Fellows fraternities; P. 0. S. of A.; Elks and Eagles, as well as the Lehigh Valley Motor Club and Chamber of Commerce. He married Maude E. Berlin, daughter of Alfred P. Berlin.
