his wife by death April 12, 1872. She was a faithful, devoted wife and a
kind mother. Her loss was mourned by a large circle of friends. Our
subject was a Democrat until the Kansas controversy, and has supported the
Republican party since its organization. He has led a temperate, upright
life, and has always been just in his dealings with his fellowmen. He is
now enjoying a calm and peaceful old age, living in the same house with
his son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hatch is one of the
heroic pioneer citizens whose indomitable energy conquered the perils of
the wilderness and whose memory will be preserved by posterity.
