HENRY H. LOVERIDGE, retired civil engineer,
Meadville, was born in Genesee County, N. Y., December 1, 1817, and is a
son of Ethan and Caroline (Gunn) Loveridge, the former a native of
Massachusetts, the latter of Connecticut, and both of English descent. His
father, who was a farmer, reared a family of five children, of whom Henry
H. was the eldest. He remained on the farm until seventeen years of age,
when he studied civil engineering, and then went on public works, where he
continued working for many years, being employed on the Erie Canal for
over thirty years, of which for several years he was Superintendent of the
French Creek feeder. He was married in 1843 to Nancy Jane, daughter of
John B. Plummer, a merchant in, Mercer County, Penn., and to this union
were born two children, William P. and Florence. Mr. and Mrs. Loveridge
are members of the Park Avenue Congregational Church. He has been a member
of the Council of Meadville; in politics is a Republican.
