Elmer A. Guth
|

|
ELMER A. GUTH, of the firm of Guth Brothers, proprietors of the
Lafayette Hotel, is the son of Albert J. D. and Sarah A. (Kressley) Guth,
and was born on the old homestead of the family in South Whitehall
Township, Lehigh County, Pa., September 25, 1875. He was educated in the
public schools and early in youth also took up the study of music.
Becoming proficient in the art, he taught music in Allentown for seven
years, and served as organist of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for a period
of five years. After the death of his father on March 18, 1904, Mr. Guth,
and his brother, George E. K. Guth, became joint proprietors of the
Lafayette Hotel, located at 133-137 North Seventh Street. This is one of
the oldest and most famous inns in Allentown. Under the progressive
management of the Guth brothers it is equipped with every modern
improvement and conducted along modern lines. Mr. Guth is a representative
business man and stands high in the community. He is active in the work of
Salem Reformed Church, being treasurer of the Sunday School and president
of the James F. Hunsicker Men’s Bible Class. He is also president of the
Guth Family Association, and a member of Barger Lodge of Masons; Allen
Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Allen Council, Royal and Select Master Masons;
Allen Commandery, Knights Templar, and Lulu Shrine; the Elks, and the K.
G. B. On October 6, 1898, he married M. Barbara, daughter of Alexander and
Mary Guth, of Allentown.
