EDWARD A. SOLELIAC, general manager of the Adelaide Silk Mills
in Allentown, controlled by the Phoenix Silk Manufacturing Company, was
born in New York City, September 14, 1873. His parents were Louis and
Eleanor (Anthony) Soleliac. With his parents he moved to Allentown in
August, 1881, and received his early tutelage at the private school of
Miss Magruder. Later he attended Muhlenberg Preparatory School and
Muhlenberg College. He entered Lehigh University and was graduated from
that institution in 1893. After one year in Philadelphia Textile Schools,
he entered the employ of the Adelaide Silk Mills as assistant to his
father, Louis Soleliac, then general manager of the mills. After his
father’s death in 1899, he succeeded to his position. In 1914 he was
appointed managing director of the Pennsylvania plants of the Phoenix Silk
Manufacturing Company, which includes two mills in this city and the Tilt
Silk Mill in Pottsville, Pa.
Mr. Soleliac has been very active in social, civic and charitable affairs
in Allentown and vicinity. He was chairman of the executive committee in
charge of the recent $120,000 campaign conducted by the Y. M. C. A., and
it was largely through his force of character and personality that the
goal was reached. He was a former president of the Livingston Club, and
was the first president and at the present time a member of the board of
governors and chairman of the house committee of the Lehigh Country Club.
He is also identified with the Allentown Lodge of Elks; the Contemporary
Club and the Manhattan Club, of New York City, as well as the Rotary Club
and the Silk Association of America.
Mr. Soleliac is a director of the Allentown National Bank; secretary of
the board of trustees of the First Presbyterian Church, and treasurer of
the Allentown Rescue Mission.
He is married to Grace W., daughter of Robert E. Wright, and is the father
of one daughter, Eleanor Caroline.
