David M. Farrelly
|

|
DAVID M. FARRELLY was born at Meadville, March
15, 1807, and Meadville, has always been his home. He was educated at
Allegheny College, beginning his studies very young, and graduating in
1825. He also attended West Point. He adopted as his profession that of
the law, and has continued its practice all his life. In the spring of
1830 he was appointed by Governor Wolf Register and Recorder of Crawford
County. In 1836 he was elected a member of the Constitutional Convention
which met at Harrisburg on the first Monday of May, 1837. The following
year he was appointed as surveyor in locating the Erie Canal from
Greenville to Erie, and in that capacity had charge of the clearing for
the reservoir at Conneaut Lake. He made a survey of the ground to be
covered as well as of the shore line of the lake in its natural state. Mr. Farrelly is a grandson of Daniel Mead, one of the first settlers of the
county, and one of the pioneers of Meadville. Married February 3, 1843 to
Elizabeth Mead of Meadville.
