CHARLES C. APPLEGATE, one of Allentown’s rising young business
men and a member of the firm of L. H. Yeager & Co., was born August 19,
1886, in South Bethlehem, Pa. He was a son of the late Quintus C. and
Sybil (Lambert) Applegate. He attended the public schools of South
Bethlehem, and was graduated from the high school with the class of 1904.
His first employment was with the Lehigh Valley Railroad in the yard,
divisional and general offices, and clerical capacities. He remained with
this corporation until January, 1913, when he became connected with the
John Wanamaker store in New York City in secretarial and salesman
capacities. Here he remained until January, 1917, when he came to
Allentown and was elected vice president and a member of the directorate
of L. H. Yeager & Co. This firm is one of the leading wholesalers and
retailers of crockery and chinaware in eastern Pennsylvania. In January,
1917, he married Miss Hilda Yeager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H.
Yeager.
