ANDREW J. TRACE, farmer, P.O. Saegerstown,
was born in Vernon Township, this county, August 2, 1840, son of John
and Anna (Brown) Trace, natives of this county. The former was a son of
Frank Trace, one of the first settlers of Vernon Township, and of German
descent. The latter was a daughter of Ferdinand Brown, an early settler
of Summit Township, this county. Our subject was reared on a farm, and
has always followed agricultural pursuits. He was married, January 3,
1867, to Susan, daughter of John and Sarah (Saxton) Van Marter, of
Vernon Township, this county, formerly of Groton, N.Y. By this union
there were born two children: Emmet and Sarah (deceased). Mr. Trace came
to Woodcock Township, this county, in the spring of 1873, locating on
the farm where he now resides. He is a member of the K. of H. In
politics he is a stanch Republican.
